At the end of the 18th century, a fungus wiped out all the coffee plantations in Ceylon. James Taylor decided to exploit this land to grow tea, which was later called “Ceylon Tea”, a name retained as a quality label for tea. In 1972, Ceylon became Sri Lanka, a Sinhalese word meaning “shining land”.
